A layabout 20-something. A grad school drug dealer. A mysterious girl. A spiritual leader. This Year is a sprawling character study of Ernest Prinze, a young man stewing in the aftermath of a family tragedy. We get to watch a man drift through a life as he desperately tries to let the vestiges of a distressed family fade away. This desire for separation leads him to increasingly abstract venues... but will the past let him go?
This is a fully self-funded independent feature film, shot over a whole year, from February 2023 and March 2024. It was created with the support of the entirety of the young filmmaking community in Vancouver, BC. We, the creative team behind This Year, are forever indebted to the generosity of the technicians and talent in this town.
